Privacy Policy — Bible for Kids

Bible for Kids is an illustrated storybook of Bible stories paired with simple quizzes, memory games and colouring activities. It is distributed in the Kids category of the Apple App Store and is designed for children who are learning to read, usually with a parent, guardian or teacher nearby.

Because the app is aimed at children, it was designed from the first sketch to meet the stricter rules that apply to children’s software: Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines for the Kids category, the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Article 8 of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR-K). The simplest way we found to honour those rules was to build an app that has nothing to collect in the first place.

Bible for Kids does not ask for, receive, record or transmit personal information. Specifically, the app does not collect:

• names, nicknames, birthdays or any profile details;
• email addresses, phone numbers or postal addresses — there is no account, no registration screen and no login;
• location data of any kind, precise or approximate; the app never requests location permission;
• contacts, calendars or reminders;
• photographs, the camera roll, the camera or the microphone — the colouring activities use only the artwork shipped inside the app;
• advertising identifiers (IDFA), device fingerprints or persistent cross-app identifiers;
• health data, contact lists, browsing history or any biometric information.

The app also contains no chat, no comments, no user profiles and no way for a child to publish anything or to communicate with a stranger.

Bible for Kids contains no advertising of any kind: no banners, no interstitials, no rewarded video, no “house” promotions for other products, and no advertising SDKs are compiled into the app.

The app also integrates no third-party analytics or attribution services. There is no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Facebook SDK, no AppsFlyer, no Adjust, no crash-reporting service that profiles users, and no behavioural tracking of any description. Nothing a child taps inside a story is measured, scored or sent anywhere.

Because no personal data is collected, none can be shared. We do not sell, rent, trade, licence or otherwise disclose information about users of Bible for Kids to advertisers, data brokers, analytics companies, publishers or any other third party. We do not create profiles of children or of the adults who buy the app, and we do not participate in any form of targeted advertising.

The stories, illustrations, narration audio and games are bundled inside the application itself, so most of the app works with the device in airplane mode. Everything the app remembers about a child is written only to that iPhone or iPad, in the app’s private storage area:

• which Bible stories have been opened or finished;
• stars, badges and quiz scores earned in the games;
• bookmarks and the last page read;
• settings such as narration volume, background music, text size and whether the app reads aloud automatically.

This information never leaves the device, is not readable by us or by any other app, and is deleted permanently when Bible for Kids is uninstalled. If a family uses iCloud device backup, that local data may be included in the encrypted backup that Apple keeps for them, under Apple’s own privacy policy and outside our access.

Bible for Kids offers an optional subscription that unlocks the full library of stories and games. All purchases are processed exclusively by Apple through In-App Purchase.

We never see and never store payment information. Card numbers, billing addresses, Apple ID credentials and purchase history remain with Apple; the app only receives an anonymous signal from the operating system telling it whether an active entitlement exists. That signal contains no name, no email address and no payment detail. To restore a previous purchase, the app asks Apple’s StoreKit to re-deliver the receipt for the Apple ID already signed in on the device — again, without us learning who that person is.

Apple’s handling of purchase data is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy, available at apple.com/legal/privacy.

Bible for Kids is intended for children, including children under the age of 13. It knowingly collects no personal information from children of any age, which means there is no personal information for a parent to review, correct or delete, and no consent for us to obtain before collection.

We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States, with Article 8 of the GDPR and equivalent children’s provisions in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, and with Apple’s requirements for apps in the Kids category. The app transmits no data to third parties, so it does not need — and does not request — verifiable parental consent for data processing.

If you believe a child has somehow provided personal information through this app, please write to us at kallumdanielbrooks@icloud.com and we will investigate and erase anything we find.

Anything that leads a child outside the story world is protected by a parental gate — a short task, such as reading a written instruction and solving a small arithmetic problem, that a young child is not expected to complete alone.

The parental gate is required before:

• opening the subscription screen or starting any purchase;
• restoring previous purchases;
• following any link that leaves the app, including this privacy policy, the terms of use, the support page and the App Store review prompt;
• opening the settings screen intended for adults.

The app contains no links to social networks and no way for a child to reach arbitrary web content from inside a story.

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give people the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete the personal data a company holds about them, and to object to its processing.

We hold no personal data about users of Bible for Kids, so in practice these requests have nothing to act upon. You can nevertheless exercise every right described above by contacting us at kallumdanielbrooks@icloud.com; we answer privacy enquiries within 2 business days and always within the 30 days required by law. Deleting all locally stored progress is immediate and entirely in your hands: uninstalling the app removes it.

The app relies on the security model of iOS itself. Its data sits in a sandboxed container that other applications cannot read, protected by the device passcode and by Apple’s file-system encryption. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no server, no database and no backup of ours that could be breached.

If we change how Bible for Kids handles information, we will publish the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes — for example, if a future version of the app were ever to collect data — would be announced in the app’s release notes and would require a fresh, plainly worded explanation before taking effect. Continuing to use the app after a revision is published means you accept the updated policy.

Earlier versions are replaced rather than archived; if you need the text that applied on a particular date, ask us and we will send it to you.
